The Arcachon Bassin: another South-West
North of the Landes, the Arcachon Bassin and Cap Ferret draw a different South-West, calmer, more maritime, more contemplative. It is OÈST Ateliers' other great source of inspiration, and the workshop pays tribute to these places through its creations.
Cap Ferret: the magical peninsula
With the ocean on one side and the bay on the other, the Cap Ferret peninsula is unique. Ocean beaches (la Pointe, Le Truc Vert, Grand Crohot), oyster villages (L’Herbe, Le Canon, Piraillan), an iconic lighthouse and the stilt huts (cabanes tchanquées) across the water.
An authentic Cap Ferret souvenir
The OÈST Cap Ferret Keyring in recycled marine rope is the must-have of any stay. French wood tag, OÈST signature. €20.
Arcachon: the Belle Époque facing the bay
An emblematic "four-seasons town", Arcachon has 4 distinct districts: the Ville d’Été (seafront), the Ville d’Hiver (Belle Époque villas), the Ville de Printemps (Arcachon harbour) and the Ville d’Automne (Pereire beaches). Not to be missed: the Jetée Thiers and the Dune du Pyla.
An authentic Arcachon souvenir
The OÈST Arcachon Keyring. Ideal for lovers of the Ville d’Hiver and its old villas.
The emblematic oyster villages
- L’Herbe - a village of huts with its charm intact
- Le Canon - oyster farmers' huts and a peaceful beach
- Piraillan - for lovers of maritime poetry
- Andernos - on the other shore, for the Sunday market
The OÈST inspirations drawn from the Bassin
The Bassin feeds OÈST in several ways:
- Colours: shades of blue-grey and sandy beige that you find in our selected sails
- Light: soft and muted, which we try to recreate in our lighting
- Rope: an essential of the oyster huts, which you find in our keyrings
- Weathered wood: the gables of the huts and the pontoons, which inspire our lamp bases
A Bassin itinerary: 3 days
- Day 1: Arcachon’s Ville d’Hiver, the Jetée Thiers, the Dune du Pyla in the late afternoon
- Day 2: boat crossing Arcachon to Cap Ferret, bike hire, ocean beaches
- Day 3: oyster villages (L’Herbe, Le Canon), returning via Andernos
