Phare de Cordouan - lighthouse lamp made from a recycled boat sail by OÈST Ateliers

Lighthouses: iconic beacons of our coastline

Every French lighthouse tells a story: a dangerous headland, a keeper’s life, a light guiding sailors through the storm. At OÈST Ateliers, we wanted to pay tribute to the iconic lighthouses of the French Atlantic coast with a collector series of lamps made from recycled boat sails. €645 each.

Phare de Cordouan (Gironde): the king of lighthouses

Built in the 16th century at the mouth of the Gironde estuary, the Phare de Cordouan is a listed historic monument and a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is nicknamed "the king of lighthouses". Our Phare de Cordouan lamp echoes its slender silhouette and the light it casts over the estuary.

Phare du Cap Fréhel (Côtes-d’Armor): the legendary cliff

Perched on top of the red cliffs of Cap Fréhel, this Breton lighthouse overlooks the bay of Saint-Malo. Our Phare du Cap Fréhel lamp is a tribute to the walkers of the Sentier des Douaniers coastal path.

Phare de Ploumanac’h (Côte de Granit Rose): the icon

The pink lighthouse, built from local granite and rising out of the tumbled rocks of Ploumanac’h, is one of the most photographed lighthouses in France. Our Ploumanac’h lamp captures this distinctive mineral tone.

Phare des Pierres Noires (Iroise): the loner

Out at sea off the Iroise, the Phare des Pierres Noires is one of the most exposed lighthouses. The Phare des Pierres Noires lamp is a tribute to the keepers and to the sailors of the great crossings.

Phare de l’Ile Noire (Brittany)

A small lighthouse standing guard over the Anse de Perros: the Phare de l’Ile Noire lamp has more understated lines but a strong Breton soul.

Phare de l’Ile de Batz

At the gateway to the Léon in northern Brittany, the Ile de Batz lighthouse still lights up the Breton waters. The Phare de l’Ile de Batz lamp has a sober, seafaring character.

Phare de Ciboure (Basque Country)

For lovers of the Basque Country, the Phare de Ciboure, at the entrance to the port of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, watches over the mouth of the Nivelle. The Phare de Ciboure lamp is a tribute to these unspoilt places.
