The recycled sail bag: more than a bag, a story

A bag made from a recycled boat sail is not a trendy fashion pouch: it is a fragment of sailing turned into an everyday companion. Each OÈST bag carries traces of its past: technical stitching, hull numbers, spray marks, sun marks.

A material that has lived

The sail held the wind for years. It weathered squalls, crossed windy channels and bore the strain of a regatta. When we turn it into a bag, its adventure carries on, but on foot. No two OÈST bags are the same, because no two sails have lived the same story.

100% made in the workshop

At OÈST Ateliers, in the Landes, Nicolas de Chénerilles carries out every step:

  1. Selection of the sail offcut according to the project and the character sought
  2. Pattern-making on the table: precise cutting, fibre orientation, handling of the marks
  3. Cutting with technical shears
  4. Industrial sewing with special needles suited to heavy canvas
  5. Marine rope finishing for the handles
  6. Signing and numbering with an indelible marker

Each bag takes between 4 and 8 hours of work depending on the model. No mass production.

Durability that goes beyond ordinary textiles

A sail was designed to withstand hostile conditions. An OÈST bag made from a recycled sail easily lasts 10 to 15 years of regular use. The rope handles develop a patina without breaking. The fabric creases without tearing. It ages like leather: with character.

Our signature models

  • Sac Heuskal Herria - a tribute to the Basque Country, a tote bag in genuine spinnaker cloth
  • Sac 80′ - the spirit of 1980s regattas, with a vintage look
