Marine Upcycling: Our Philosophy at OÈST Ateliers
Marine upcycling at OÈST Ateliers is a philosophy: short supply chain, noble materials, a workshop in the Landes, one-off production. Our manifesto.

Marine upcycling: one word, one philosophy
Upcycling: turning an end-of-life material into a product of greater value. Marine: rooted in the world of sailing and the sea. At OÈST Ateliers, these two words have summed up our approach since 2019.
Our material: French sails
All our sails come from French boats, mainly from the Atlantic. Partner professional sail lofts, donations from private owners, port waste facilities. Our sourcing is traceable: we know where every piece of cloth comes from.
Our workshop: 100% Landes
The OÈST workshop is in the Landes. No subcontracting. Nicolas de Chénerilles personally handles the selection, cutting, sewing, woodwork, assembly and finishing. Having a single maker guarantees perfect consistency.
Our wood: sustainable and French
For lamp bases and keyring tags, we work exclusively with French wood from sustainably managed forests. Oak, ash, chestnut - from Landes suppliers through a short supply chain.
Our approach: the one-of-a-kind piece
No mass production. Each object is numbered, signed and different. This uniqueness is incompatible with mass retail. It is also what gives our work its perceived value.
What we stand for
- Against planned obsolescence in textiles and lighting
- Against the offshoring of French craftsmanship
- Against mass production and the standardisation of interiors
- For the circular economy applied to interior design
- For artisan skills that are recognised and fairly paid
- For the memory of the boats that have sailed our coasts
